How to Clean a Keyboard Safely
Share
Your keyboard remembers every snack you’ve ever had. Yesterday’s croissant, a biscuit between calls, lunch at your desk: the crumbs have to go somewhere. Give your workspace a small reset with the VACDRA Mini 2-in-1 vacuum and air duster.
Start with your keyboard’s instructions
Check the manufacturer’s cleaning guidance first. Switch off and unplug your keyboard. For a laptop, shut it down and disconnect the charger. Do not remove keycaps unless the manufacturer permits it.
Collect loose, dry crumbs
Clear the desk around your keyboard. Where the manufacturer allows it, gently tilt the keyboard over a bin to release loose crumbs. Use the VACDRA Mini on suitable surfaces to collect accessible dry debris. Keep the nozzle clear of loose keys and avoid pressing or forcing attachments between them.
Use airflow carefully
If your keyboard’s instructions allow air cleaning, use short, controlled passes at an angle to move loose dust outward. Do not blow debris deeper into the keyboard or into ports. Collect the loosened debris afterwards.
Finish with a gentle wipe
Use a soft cloth and only a cleaner approved by your keyboard manufacturer. Apply it sparingly to the cloth, never directly to the keyboard. Keep moisture out of openings and let everything dry before reconnecting.
Make it a small habit
Check for crumbs after desk snacks and clean when needed. Empty the Mini’s debris cup after use. Any washed filter must dry completely before reassembly. Never vacuum liquids, hot debris or sharp objects.
